Established in 2001 by the Ongame group, Pokeroom.com is known as the "world's leading online poker room". With reliable software, a large traffic increase and multiple ways to play, Pokeroom.com is the hands down choice for many online poker players. Secure and well known, Pokeroom.com has found a nice niche in the online poker market. Even offering mobile poker on your cell phone!

Pokeroom.com offers excellent software that is both pleasing to the eyes and increasingly reliable. The only drawback that we've been able to find is that at time it can be hard to see the winning hand (in ring games only) in a showdown before both hands are mucked and chips awarded. Of course, a text display/log assures you of exactly what transpired. Pokeroom.com allows users to play using a Java applet (great for Mac or Linux) or the standard windows download. Personally, I enjoy the Java for times on the go or internet cafés where downloads are often restricted. The Windows program lets you keep player notes and even colour code players by their styles (especially useful for keeping track of loose callers). A statistics log can be kept, showing your win/loss per hour, fold percentages, big bets and other useful information. Recently, Pokeroom.com has begun offering Team Tournaments; where teams of 5-10 people can band together and play in leagues.

Pokeroom.com's starting bonus is small but stable. You will need to earn 10 player points for each dollar of the bonus. (Ex: $100 free would require 1000 player points). Many people and professionals alike gauge soft competition by the view flop % alone. While a high % would indicate a looser game, it doesn’t necessarily mean the players are playing weak poker. Also, a large amount of traffic is often correlated with many soft players fish. Keep in mind, with more fish in the water, more sharks soon follow. The trick to finding an easy game in the middle to low limits is simple, keep an eye on the table and watch for weak play, loose calls and players looking to draw out or playing weak aces. During peak hours there are 2000-3000 real money players to be found in ring games and over 10,000 in real money tournaments. They are currently the fourth largest pokeroom online and in this editors opinion, one of the best.

The rake at Pokeroom.com is a little unique and can be considered above the industry average depending on your style of play. Pokeroom.com uses a formula consisting of 3 variables to determine the rake and they are as follows: The number of players in the hand, type of game (fixed or no-limit) and the size of pot as a multiple of the big blind. In all cases, the maximum rake is capped at $3. The rake can get as high as 10% in small pots played passively, however this system rewards players whom are aggressively involved in the pots they play where the rake can be as low as 2% on a consistent basis.
